ONCE & FUTURE DLX LTD SLIPCASE ED HC BOOK 01 is a well written book with great art. If you're a fan of the series, then this is definitely worth picking up.
Plot: Kieron Gillen
In the future, magic is real. There are people who can see the past and people who can see the future, but there aren't many of them. But one girl can do both: she's an oracle with a unique gift for divination that has her locked away in a tower by her father until he figures out what to do with her.
But when she meets another young man who shares her ability to see both aspects of time—but only one at a time—they team up to stop an ancient evil from consuming all existence. It's up to this unlikely pair to save everything from being erased from existence forever!
The plot itself is pretty simple; it follows two main characters as they try and stop this dark force from destroying everything by using their powers of foresight. There's nothing particularly innovative about that in its own right, but Gillen does manage some effective twists along the way which keep things interesting enough throughout most of its length (and much longer than one might expect given how much space is taken up by exposition).
Art: Dan Mora
The art in this book is gorgeous, and really helps to tell the story. It's detailed, beautiful, and well done. The colors pop off the page, making it so much easier to focus on what's going on without being distracted by backgrounds or other things that would otherwise take away from a good story.
This is definitely one of my favorite aspects about this book: the art! I can't recommend it enough!
Colorist: Tamra Bonvillain
Tamra Bonvillain is a colorist who has worked on many of Marvel and DC's top books. The first volume of her work for them was Image Comics' ODY-C. She also worked on Bitch Planet, which you may have read about in the news because it was canceled by the publisher after two years; she won an Eisner Award for her work on that series, as well.
When it comes to this project specifically and how amazing it looks: As I mentioned above, there are three different artists who worked on Once & Future King (each drawing one half of a chapter), but each one uses only one colorist throughout their half—and not just any colorist! It's Tamra Bonvillain! She is responsible for making sure all those scenes look cohesive even though they were drawn by three different people with very different styles and approaches to illustration.
Letterer: Ed Dukeshire
Ed Dukeshire is an American comic book letterer. He has worked on a variety of titles for Marvel Comics and DC Comics, including "Doom Patrol" and "Batman: Arkham Unhinged". Ed has won an Eisner Award in the category Best Single Issue/Single Story (Over 32 pages) for his work on Doom Patrol #15 in 2004.
Ed Dukeshire is a comic book letterer for Marvel Comics, DC Comics and Image Comics. He has been nominated for an Eisner award for his lettering in the comic book series "Doom Patrol".

If you’re looking for a book that is fun and entertaining, yet also smart, ONCE & FUTURE DLX LTD SLIPCASE ED HC BOOK 01 is a great choice. The story is well written and the art is amazing. It’s hard to believe that this comic series started as an audio drama on the podcast Once and Future!
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was my first time reading anything by Kieron Gillen, but I am now a big fan of his work. I can't wait to read more stories from him!
