What is Animation?

Animation is the art of making a series of images come to life. Animators create characters, situations and give them life by bringing them to life on screen. They add sound effects, music and dialogue to tell a story in pictures.

Animators learn to draw well before they do anything else because drawing is the most important part of animation! Animators must also be good at using computers because everything nowadays is done in front of computer screens instead of on paper like it used to be done back when cartoons were first invented (which was long ago).

Who are these people who work as animators today? Well there are two kinds: computer animators who use software programs like Adobe Flash or Maya; traditional hand-drawn artists who still use pencils & paper like old fashioned cartoonists used too. There are many other types too such as digital paint artists for example!
