Maximo: Ghosts To Glory - PlayStation 2 Review

Maximo: Ghosts to Glory is a hack 'n slash action game for PlayStation 2. The game takes place in a medieval kingdom that has fallen under the spell of evil ghosts.

Maximo, the son of a great swordsman, awakens on his deathbed to find himself surrounded by spirits. He receives a message that tells him that he is destined to fight the ghosts and ghouls that have taken over the kingdom, and so must battle with his sword. The game begins as Maximo starts out on his adventure.

Maximo is a hack 'n slash type game in which Maximo, controlled via joystick and buttons, fights his way through level after level of grisly enemies. Each level has its own challenges, such as falling ceilings or obstacles that move in reaction to the controller's movements. In addition to fighting enemies and navigating through each level safely, Maximo must also collect hearts for his health bar.

In general the graphics are decent; backgrounds are sparse and mostly feature brick walls or stone floors (although there are some nice looking forests). The character designs are mostly uninspired except for some interesting looking enemies. It's worth noting that there aren't many sound effects in this game--for example when an enemy is killed they make no noise at all but just disappear into thin air.

The graphics in the game are very dark and gloomy, but this adds to the gothic theme of the game nicely. The levels are designed in interesting ways and each one looks totally different from the others. There is a lot of detail in every area which makes it easy to navigate the levels without getting lost. As he progresses through each level, he must navigate obstacles, open chests for treasure and collect crystals for special powers. Maximo can jump over holes in the ground and up stairs as well as swing his sword while moving in any direction

Although there are some puzzles along the way (such as finding hidden doors or operating levers), most of the challenge comes from fighting off hordes of enemies at once while trying not to get hit by their attacks.

The music is the most noteworthy aspect of this game; it's composed by Yuzo Koshiro and features some catchy beats that are reminiscent of early Mega Man games. It's nice to see an old-school composer getting a chance to create music for modern consoles.

The sound effects in Maximo: Ghosts To Glory are pretty basic with only a few different kinds of sounds being used throughout most of the game. There aren’t really any explosions or other loud noises, but I did enjoy hearing some music when I entered certain areas such as an Egyptian tomb or underground caverns full of lava pits!

If you're looking for an action-packed adventure game with plenty of challenge and some great graphics, Maximo: Ghosts To Glory is the perfect choice. This game will keep you entertained for hours on end as you fight through level after level with your trusty sword at hand. The only downside is that it can get repetitive after awhile but if this doesn't bother then there's no reason not to buy this game today!
